Workshop

The Building Blocks: Strategies for Inclusion Workshop is a two-day interactive workshop for early childhood educators and related service providers. The workshop promotes self-directed discovery and collaborative problem solving. The training modules provide the framework and tools, but the participants are encouraged to tap into their existing resources and build their own solutions to inclusive child care in their community.

Child care programs are busy places with dedicated staff who have a limited amount of resources including money, time and energy! For inclusion to work, the solutions must be practical, inexpensive and simple to implement. Often the answers are at our fingertips, if we are willing to examine new situations systematically and in partnership with others.

Raide

The Building Blocks: Strategies for Inclusion Training Program takes participants through six important elements needed in building an inclusive child care program:

Introduction
Build an ideal inclusive child care program and be introduced to the essential Power Tools needed for quality construction.

Development
Learn to recognize how development can go off track and what the implications may be for the child and your program.

Observation
Good observation is a critical part of child care. We'll introduce an innovative five step problem solving process that involves detailed observation and analysis of the child, environment and caregivers.

Routines
Work as a team to apply problem solving strategies to "real" children within child care program routines. Practical strategies will be used to individualize activities and routines through hands-on use of materials.

Administration
Support from the community, parents, Board of Directors, Director and staff is essential in making inclusion work. Discussion will take place around common administrative challenges that inclusive programs face.

Resources
Turn your inclusion tool box into a Treasure Chest! You'll come away from the training program with a treasure trove of resource and funding ideas.

Partnerships
Quality inclusive child care programs require a team effort. Through a variety of activities, you'll understand the importance of partnerships and teamwork with families, other professionals and the community.
